Therapy Office

Welcome…

My name is Pa Kou (pronounced Pa C00)…

but don’t stress it.. call me P.K.

DBT Therapist in Fresno, Ca; Hmong Therapist in Fresno

I help teens and adults who are ready to get UNSTUCK.

I never said this easy to do. Let’s face it! If it was EASY, you wouldn’t be reading this right now.

The overall goal of therapy here is not to feel better but to be better at feeling.

I’m not your typical TALK therapist. You can expect NOT to be talking to a wall or answering questions like, “How does that make you feel?”.

You get to be YOU and I get to be ME.

This is about us working collaboratively to get you to YOUR life worth living goals. No time for BULLSHIT!

You can expect a-ha moments, laughter, tears, not wanting to come to session and still coming.

You can expect weekly homework to complete outside of session to reinforce what you are learning in session. This makes sure that your skills are sticking, and that you will be able to maintain these changes even after you’ve completed therapy here.

My clients graduate from therapy with more clarity, self-awareness and better able to manage and tolerate their emotions.

For the past 10 years, I’ve worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood dysregulation, addictive behaviors, self-harm behaviors and relational problems.

I’ve had my own mental health struggles which has inspired me to become a therapist. Know that YOU are NOT alone and that we all have our own story tell.

Somethin’ about me: I am a first-generation Hmong American woman. I love me a good ink pen and long bike ride with my kids. The smell of melted butter and fresh ground coffee seem to take all my worries away.

YOU'LL KNOW THERAPY IS WORKING WHEN:

Your mind is NOT in control of you.

You are ABLE to tolerate painful events, urges,

and emotions without making it worse.

You CAN problem solve relationship conflicts more effectively.

You are able to pause and breathe more frequently.

MY APPROACH

I DON’T believe that therapy is a LIFE SENTENCE. NO ONE wants to be MISERABLE for the rest of their life. Change can be difficult; not IMPOSSIBLE.

I believe that any behavior that is learned, can also be unlearned with effective skill sets. I meet with my clients once a week, every week until they meet their treatment goal. In the brief time we have together, it is important that you are able to acquire and maintain the skills set you learn in therapy to be able to continue living the life you want.

The evidence-based practice I utilize in my work is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I received foundational DBT training in 2019. I am currently receiving DBT intensive training, and I consult weekly with a group of knowledgeable DBT therapists.

*** It is important to note that I am not offering adherent DBT at this time, as I am not offering DBT skills group.
